Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming a star in the mainstream were unsuccessful. The singer has been signed by 2 record companies, but dropped before she released any songs. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which received a little attention in 2007 because of its humorous title. "I kissed a Girl a straightforward ode to sexual curiosity, backed by the beat of a hardedged electropop brought her more attention just a few months after. It was not a popular song and critics were critical of the song for promoting relationships between gay men and others claimed that the song depicted a racy scene that appealed to male desires for sexuality in women. The combination of titillation, polished melody and a catchy tune helped it become a top-ten hit in a variety of countries. This led to an album called One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. The album's song, the second Hot N Cold also proving well-loved, the album that Perry wrote herself eventually registered the sales of over three million copies within the United States.
